Overview

This course is designed for personnel working in aquatic facilities who may be required to provide oxygen resuscitation in emergency situations. It covers the use of oxygen therapy equipment and techniques to support casualties until advanced medical help arrives. Ideal for lifeguards and aquatic staff responsible for emergency response.

Course Outline

  • Assess and respond to aquatic medical emergencies

  • Safely operate oxygen resuscitation equipment

  • Deliver oxygen therapy to breathing and non-breathing casualties

  • Apply infection control and manual handling practices

  • Monitor oxygen flow and casualty response

  • Coordinate care with emergency services

  • Maintain and store oxygen equipment correctly

  • Document incidents and follow workplace protocols

This course is offered as a face-to-face course. Pre-course learning is required.

Face to Face minimum duration is 3 hours.

There are no formal prerequisite units required for entry into this course. Learners will require English language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills.

Learners undertaking refresher training must have previously completed the HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.

Learners will be required to provide a copy of their expiring Statement of Attainment (or digital certificate that can be validated) on the day of their face-to-face course.

Assessment activities will include a knowledge test and practical assessments including performing non swimming and swimming rescues. Students will also complete scenarios in a simulated environment.

The Statement of Attainment is valid for 12 months and should be updated annually.
